Loosely defined? Momisms are ‘something a mom does’. Before actually starting up this blogging thing, I had never actually read up on the term ‘momism’. It was just a term I used as I saw fit (Look at you hiding from your kids while you eat a piece of licorice! Such a momism!) Who knew it had an actual meaning?. However once I started writing, I started looking stuff up (because you know, research), and it turns out the term ‘momism’ not only has a defined meaning, it’s one that I have never heard used in context, and am not a huge fan of! hahaha!
Re-Defining The Term ‘Momisms’
When I think of the word heroism, I think ‘acts that a hero would perform’. In fact, according to an online dictionary search, heroism is defined as ‘The qualities characteristic of a hero, such as courage, bravery, fortitude, unselfishness, etc.; the display of such qualities.’. This is how I’ve always used the term ‘mom
ism’. I throw it around when discussing ‘The qualities characteristic of a mom, such as strength, cleverness, creativity, unconditional love, hiding while eating candy, etc.; the display of such qualities.’…and quite honestly, from here on out, that is how we will define ‘momism’ around these parts! MMMMMK?
Momisms are those things you just know are associated with Momming. Things moms do, say, and are generally are known for. There are just so many worth discussing (in fact, we’ve already discussed some wardrobe Momisms over HERE), and some top secret ones that we might just have to share with the world as well. (HA!)
So tell me, what are some of your favourite Momisms? Mine has definitely got to be living up to the phrase, ‘Because is not an answer….unless you’re a mom!’ You can check out some more of my favourite Momisms on Pinterest!
